Victory for Polito in 2012 EPT Barcelona

Frenchman Laurent Polito has added to his impressive CV of titles this week, after the player proved victorious in the Barcelona event of the European Poker Tour. The win now means that Polito has won a total of $582,758 during his career and is undoubtedly classed as one of the more successful players who are currently vying on the European Poker Tour.

Prior this win, the player's biggest triumph happened to come at a €550 Winamax Poker Tour tournament where he took home €64,000.

Polito overcame a field of 111 players to win the Shamballa Jewels bracelet and managed to win a big share of the total €1,087,800 pool that was on offer to competitors. Polito's success was even more impressive considering the fact he was up against several PokerStars professionals in the form of Jason Mercier, Jonathan Duhamael and Dan Smith.

It would be fair to say that this tournament took a somewhat unexpected turn, with 2nd place actually taking home more than winner Polito. When Polito came to face Alex Bilokur as the tournament progressed to heads-up, he found himself significantly down on chips and therefore struck a deal which would see him take €270,229, while Bilokur would accept €295,451.

However, as it turns out, Polito was the player to eventually succeed and this meant that he was awarded the winner's title and the prestigious Shamballa bracelet – if not the full prize money.

With benefit of hindsight, it can be said that this was a poor move by Polito, yet he surely cannot be blamed considering the fact he had banked so little in career earnings prior to this victory.
