All in a day’s work for Choi

Few people can boast to earn $6,465,746 in one day, yet Stanley Choi has just been added to that list. The Chinese player managed to win the recent Macau High Stakes Challenge and take home an unbelievable prize for his efforts.

The Macau High Stakes Challenge is one of the most lucrative games in world poker and managed to entice no less than 73 players this time around. As you would expect, the event attracted some of the best players in the world with Phil Ivey, Sam Trickett, Gus Hansen, Tom Dwan and Mike McDonald being just a selection of the players who took to Asia to battle for the massive prize pot.

However, despite the competition, it was the relatively unknown Choi who triumphed. Prior to the event Choi had never even cashed at an event, meaning that this victory was a surprise to say the least. Nevertheless, the player must have had significant financial clout, with this tournament costing a hefty $250,000 to enter.

The Macau High Stakes Challenge is regarded as one of the most brutal tournaments on the professional schedule and even though there are huge prizes on offer, the game runs at lightning fast pace with 30-minute levels. This meant that many of the top players were eliminated in the early stages, with Ivey and Trickett being the only two famous players to finish in a respectable position and take home $999,213 and $822,965 respectively.

As you would expect, once Choi wrapped up the tournament very quickly once it progressed to a heads-up situation. After the eventual runner-up, Zhu Guan Fai, raised pre-flop with 6S-6D, Choi shoved and ending up triumphing thanks to his 10C-10H hand.
